Honestly, we need to start thinking this way. Next season is a 12 game fcs regular season, but yet we are once again only scheduling 5 home games. I don't understand why we never get more home games than away games. Other than getting a paycheck from a power 5 school, please explain to me why we shouldn't have at minimum 6 home games during a 12 game season? How much did WCU get paid when Montana backed out of the return trip? Seems to me that WCU will spend a lot more money traveling to Montana than we would make hosting an out of conference home game.

To be honest we would be smart to try and dump the Montana game next year....That start to next year with those four games are brutal....N C State and Montana loss...Sorry!!! Elon could be a 50-50 game at there place at best....I do feel safe beating Campbell in Cullowhee...I would hate to start the season 1-3

Nobody will care about the NCSU game, but we will need to be competitive against Montana and we need to beat both CAA teams. I actually like it - we will already know if we are playoff-worthy by the time the SOCON season starts. We will need to be 2-2 and then finish at least 6-2 to make it in my opinion.
Keep in mind we also play away games at Furman, Mercer, and Samford. I think we will have a really good football team next year, but getting to 8 wins will be tougher than it was this season.

I am almost sure that next season's Montana game was originally a home game for us and the return game in was there in 2025. That's why we ended up with a road game at Elon in the coming season. I hope that makes sense to you. Because we have to play a "money" game virtually every season, it is almost impossible to play six home games and balance the budget. Because of a lack of administration support in the mid 8os through the early 90s, we had to play at least two "money" games to survive. In 1986, we played three monies...Auburn, South Carolina and NC State. I think we would have made the playoffs in 1986 if we had played one less "money" game. You have no idea what Coach Waters had to do to keep our football program competitive in those days.

The home-and-home series was announced back in 2019. I think it was always supposed to be at Montana in 2024 and in Cullowhee in 2025. catamountsports.com/news/2019/5/7/211802803.aspxBut no doubt we have always struggled financially. We played 2 money games every year from I think 2011 to 2017. In 3 of those years (2014, 2015, and 2017) we could have probably won 8 games and made the playoffs with scheduling a Pioneer or lesser FCS opponent rather than a second money game. But we needed the money. Hopefully we are over that and now limit it to one. I also expect we get some money from Montana from them backing out of their trip to Western. 2025 is already set and a pretty good schedule for us - the 4 OOC games include Gardner-Webb, Wake Forest, Elon, and Campbell. I kind of wish that was the 2024 slate to be honest.
