I am not one of the top 10%, but a consistent donor. Probably top 20%? I am not sure what to do. Donate more or stop donating. The program is really not moving forward. Some of the facilities cannot compete with similar programs. As many of you say on this board, the administration is not supportive. From a neutral perspective, I do not think the coaching is good. The players are not 100% to blame. They are who we think they are. Hard working, talented, with a desire to win. But not the top rated recruits. Far from it. Somebody needs to come up with a brainstorming idea quickly to fix this. Remember, we have to compensate for our location (although I love it) and lack of top-class facilities. At this point it is not about the X’s and O’s, it is about how we turn this around.

Without the desire of the administration to make athletics the front porch of WCU, nothing will or can change with the athletics programs in Cullowhee. Change comes from the top. Until the folks in the white building want a change, nothing will happen. Even if the Catamount Club were able to raise enough money each year to fully fund scholarships at WCU, that does nothing for the sub-par facilities. Look at the overall athletic budgets, you just can't put lipstick on that pig. Athletics is just not important to the folks in the white building until that changes, nothing changes in the program. I certainly can't tell you what to do with your money, but I know what I'm going to do, less money to the Cat Club until the administration makes some real changes in funding and facility upgrades.

I'm far from being a top donor to the Club, so my small amount doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things, but once this years membership runs out I do not intend to renew it all. Something has to get the attention of our administration and after all these years of continued alumni support, maybe money(or lack of money coming in) is the one thing they will understand if enough people stop their contributions.

Citadel rallies to win at WCU with 5 players suspended, including starting QB
By Jeff Hartsell jhartsell@postandcourier.com CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Citadel football coach Brent Thompson suspended five players, including his starting quarterback, top rusher and a starting cornerback for Saturday’s 38-24 victory at Western Carolina. And for a half, the Bulldogs played like they didn’t have a clue how to proceed without them. Six penalties, three fumbles (one returned for a WCU touchdown) and a dropped interception helped Western Carolina to a 14-point lead at halftime. But as the sun went down behind the mountains surrounding Whitmire Stadium, the Bulldogs found something — inspiration or embarrassment or maybe just some overdue luck. Two blocked punts (by Sean-Thomas Faulkner and Bradley Carter), a Willie Eubanks interception and a 59-yard reverse for a touchdown by Raleigh Webb fueled a 28-point second-half explosion as The Citadel rallied to win before a homecoming crowd of 10,499 at WCU. “We needed this desperately,” said Citadel senior safety Aron Spann III. “We were in a drought, and finally the floodgates opened.” www.postandcourier.com/sports/citadel-rallies-to-win-at-wcu-with-players-suspended-including/article_fd83fcc2-df9a-11e8-8a4e-c768316ed9da.html

This is two weeks in a row that WCU lost games they should not have lost. ETSU was a good team I get that but CItadal was not good at all ! They had starting quarterback, running back and cornerback suspended ! We had a 14 point lead on a slow non explosive offensive team. But because their coaches made adjustments at halftime which Wcu lead at 24-10 the CItadal left with a win . And we are left with excuses from Coaches!

I made the decision to reduce my donation next year when the new donor schedule was released for 2019. I'm not willing to bump up to what it takes to keep Purple Zone/Paws Porch access and I can actually give less to keep my parking, which at this point, is all I'm interested in. The Catamount Club made a business decision, so will I.
I think we all knew that the defense wasn't going to be very good. We should have known when we couldn't run D2 Newberry out of the stadium there would be problems. Special teams is atrocious. The unsportsmanlike penalties, which was a hallmark of the ASU Moore teams this staff coached, hurt and unlike the Apps, we don't have the talent to overcome stupidity. With the death of Dr. Belcher, I fear the athletic department is headed for the backwater again.
WCU can not solve the triple option-bone style offense. We've seen it 2-4 times per year for 20+ years and yet we remain befuddled.
I skipped Mercer two weeks ago and went straight on to Savannah. I'm passing on the Carolina game too. I'm only going to the Wofford game to tailgate and see all of my great friends one last time this year. We'll see how basketball turns out. The schedule made out as I read it, kind of sucks. Not a lot of home games beyond conference.

With the death of Dr. Belcher, I fear the athletic department is headed for the backwater again. I liked Dr. Belcher as well, but he was not a friend of athletics where it counted. In raising the athletic budget, he was of the same train of thought as Dr. Bardo. He was a great frontman for the university and cheerleader for athletics, but behind the scenes, not a contributor where it counts, more funding for facilities and the overall budget.

You’re not hurting the administration by not giving. Why don’t you call up some of the athletes and tell them you aren’t giving anymore because you don’t like the facilities.
I personally will move up to the next level next year so we can continue to help the athletes.

Belcher was a great fan and cheerleader but that’s about as far as it went. He gave lip service like the rest of the administration does.
