Upmost respect for our military... Up most respect for all of our student athletes too... Not real sure where your middle schoolers comment is coming from... If they were getting paid to play ball, then boo all you want... But they are not... 18-22 years olds don't deserve it... The “Middle Schooler” comments refer to not saying anything negative to them to keep from hurting their feelings. 18 to 22 year olds are young men & not children. I served during the Vietnam War & you can rest assured that soldiers in this age group were treated differently than WCU Football Players. You are correct about these players not getting paid to play. When I played for WCU, I was on scholarship & I always thought that is was like getting paid to play. You have access to in-State & out of state cost to attend WCU. Over a 4 year period, that is a good some of money. I just don’t think you can say they are playing football for free when their education is being paid for by fellow students in their activities fees. It's not my or anyone else's place to get on these players - that is the coach's job...

Skip, I remember when Bob Waters was the Head Coach & one of his teams had performed badly for most of the season & the students were upset about their performance. They came to home games with a brown paper bag on their heads to register their frustrations with the Catamounts. Like 72 stated about this season, the problems the players are having this season are created by poor coaching. The more people that scrutinize the Coaching Staff during games will recognize what is obviously wrong with the Football Program.

If they were getting paid to play ball, then boo all you want... But they are not... 18-22 years olds don't deserve it... I'm sorry, but most of the players are getting paid to play ball. Every scholarship dollar they receive is to play ball. Every dollar they receive for tuition, fees, room & board is payment for their performance on the football field. Some get full rides, most are partial, but whatever the case, they are being reimbursed to play football at WCU. That does not mean they should be belittled, but don't make such a statement, because you are wrong. I think most on this board are not faulting the players for this season, but are putting the blame squarely where it belongs, on the back of the head coach. Y'all need to go back and read some of your negative statements regarding the players... There are plenty to choose from - from not having the talent, poor tackling skills, to terrible kicking... It's there if you go back to the Newberry game and read... Done with this - Skip

This team was better than its record. Stop drinking the kool-aid coming out of the athletic department. Coach Speir kept saying the team hasn't learned how to win. Maybe somebody hasn't learned how to win as a head coach.

I am not advocating for booing the players, but I think the point being made is this.... these are not delicate little snowflakes (or at least, shouldn't be) who are so fragile, and not able to take criticism for poor play when it occurs. I would bet that most of them would actually acknowledge it on their own. If they can't take some booing or criticism, they will someday have a rude awakening out in the real world. The same applies to the coaching staff as well.

He sees the same things we see & he does not see any advantage to the University or to the Football Team by constantly bellyaching about them. I respect his statements & his love for the University. He is also a great KA. We just don’t see eye to eye on a failing Football Program. That is what makes this Board a good place to post opinions for or against the way the Football Program is being managed. Hope Skip is not upset with me.
