You missed the point. for one this isn't a job were they are paid. Parents send their kids to these school because coaches tell them that they will treat their kids as their own. To tell a kid in June you need to find another school, doesn't matter if you new or not. Not right. I do get the point, and I know I am being harsh. I DO feel badly for them. However, stuff happens. Some kids lose a parent unexpectedly while away at school. Others might be victim of a crime on campus or a car wreck. Worse things can happen. These kids can stay in school and stay fit and still keep the year of eligibility. Most of them have a network of high school coach, travel coach, former WCU coach as a mentor and reference. I agree - for some - maybe many - they will give up on their dream - and it is unfair. As 2002 pointed out - Coach Bell has a job to do and it's his decision on how to do it.

Most programs have a ton of walk-ons bc you limited the number of scholarships you can give. I know of one that was offer by LR and coach Drew Cronic but choose Western. Also had other offers even some basketball offers. Another that was offered by GW. So some good athletes were showed the door without as much as tryout. Not to mention the scholarship players ask to leave. Pray it all works out for these kids.

Agreed - I would love it if they were able to use their talents elsewhere and truly sorry it ended like this.

I'm sure the coaches wouldn't show a player the door if they were actually FCS caliber players, and yes GW is FCS but they are not SoCon caliber. It's unfortunate that these guys aren't being retained, but if you recall the were recruited by the previous staff and we all know how that has panned out over the last 10 years. The young man you mentioned that was offered by LR is a perfect example,we should not be offering players that are on LR's level. Hate it for the young men like I said but it's time for winners in the Whee!!

A lot of valid points all the way around. Just wish the former coach/staff had been better judges of SoCon level talent. Then, these young men would not be caught up in a set of circumstances that, for most, will not have the outcome they were hoping for. If they could play at this level, this past spring could have been used to gauge the level of their athletic abilities. Yes, hindsight doesn’t count for much, so you have to be disappointed for these young men, but continuing to be the laughing stock of the SoCon isn’t much fun either.

Here is one that no doubt has SoCon level talent. Coaches did not know how to use the talent hey had. I disagree that these kids did not have the talent. 100 percent of our problem was coaching and not recruiting.

Strib was a nice catch from Grayson, a great GA high school program - either his junior or senior year, they were state 6A champs. (Oone of his teammates went to Bama.) He had several good snags last fall - but (IMO) wasn't coached nor used. 6'3" - 180 lbs. Great hands. Back close to home. Hope he does well.

Too bad he didn't give this coaching staff a chance.

Wasn't his decision to leave. He was ask to leave. And a lot of d2 players were brought in. A lot of you complained that kids that weren't given a chance weren't talented enough to play at this level. Sad because at least 8 of them had to enroll at western for the fall and try to find a football home for the spring.
