SoCon is guaranteed to get a team into the quarter-finals (UTC vs Furman winner). Great day for the SoCon.
Not a Mercer fan, but I will be next weekend

I just can't pull for Mercer and will be for UT-C only because I want Furman out.

The biggest crowd of any FCS playoff game yesterday was around 7,500, and Nicholls State’s team has been stranded in an airport for 12 hours apparently because they don’t have a plane. Not great looks for the NCAA and FCS

There will be only one SoCon FCS team left in the playoffs after next weekend and either Chatt or Furman will have to play Montana. The aNCAA set it up so we cannot be successful. We will not get to the semi-finals. Other teams are in friendlier brackets.

Sending the GWU/Mercer winner to play the #1 seed is a perfect example. The FU/Chatty winner has the best chance of making some noise... But of coures, that winner will have to take on the #2 seed. FU's loss cost them a lot, as they could have been the #2 seed if they had beat the Terriers...

If Furman was the #2 seed, I expect they still would have gotten either Mercer or UTC in the second round. I get regionalization, and there is an MVFC matchup in round 2 as well. But when they have 6 teams in that is hard to avoid. When the SOCON usually has 2 to no more than 3 in you would think they would try and avoid a rematch so early in the playoffs.

The Missouri Valley and Big Sky have dominated the championship for most of the past 10 years. I do agree however that the number of teams from those conferences that get bids seems out of whack, but FLCATAMOUNT almost admits their strength by saying the SoCon teams are set up to lose. South Dakota lost 2 games - Missouri & SDSU. Montana State lost to SDSU, Montana & Idaho. Idaho lost to Cal, Montana, and Weber State (by 2 points). These teams seem to have earned their seeds in very competitive conferences. I hope the Cats under Bell's guidance AND other SoCon teams can get to those levels of strength. We'll see how Mercer and Chattanooga do this weekend.

Not great looks for the NCAA and FCS That's been the case going back to the origins of 1-AA playoffs. Having the first round the weekend of Thanksgiving has always been an attendance issue. But for whatever reason, the NCAA doesn't want to hold off one week.
