Agreed......win out and WCU is in
Furman winning against UTC also helps, as does Samford beating Mercer.
All the Cats can do is control what they can control. Beat Woffy, ETSU, and VMI ...... everything else takes care of itself

In my opinion, if Chat beats Furman and then, Chat, Furman and Mercer win out, it does not matter if we win out. I think Chat and Furman are in with only 1 SoCon loss. How many teams does the SoCon usually get in? I don’t remember if it is 2 or 3? We need to win out and have Furman beat Chat. Otherwise if Chat wins, we have to make sure they take 3 SoCon teams because Chat and Furman are in with only one SoCon loss. All we can do is worry about winning 3 but that does not guarantee us anything. We need for Furman to beat Chat to have a chance in my opinion. Also it does not help us that we have not been to the playoffs in 40 years.

In your scenario it is more than possible 4 SOCON teams get in. There are going to be a lot of 7-4/6-5 type teams this season in the MVFC and CAA. The SOCON has had 3 and now 4 teams in the rankings for much of the season. So if we have 4 teams that have at least 8 wins I think all 4 could very well make it. But any SOCON team with only 7 wins will not.
In all the places I can find, for WCU it really doesn't matter what anybody else does. If we get to 8 we will be in as a team that has been highly ranked (some might say too highly at one point). If we lose another game will be out. It feels like this year - unlike many in recent memory - the SOCON has a little more respect and it won't be any kind of thoughts that only 2 teams are worthy.

Interesting that he has a potential Davidson/WCU match-up that the winner would go play @ Idaho in the 2nd round while having the UT-M/UCA winner travel to Furman. I would expect if this played out the way he has it, the committee would find some way to have 2 SOCON teams playing each other in the 2nd round (either WCU or Mercer lined up to play in Greenville).
He also states that the top-team in each match-up would be the host, meaning he feels that we would go to Davidson rather than them coming to Cullowhee.
Davidson would have very few fans there, and they have a stadium less than 1/2 the size of ours. WCU would also still be presumably ranked, so hard for me to believe that if that game happened it wouldn't be in Cullowhee. I think what teams bid plays into it, but I also think the NCAA takes into consideration potential revenue from the game. My opinion is there would be more WCU fans at Davidson than there would be Davidson fans.
As for bids, does anybody know how that works? When do you submit, what would WCU bid, etc.?

Don't know any details, but I do know WCU has already completed the paperwork

The Samford/Mercer game this weekend is very intriguing. While I don't think Samford can make the playoffs, a win against Mercer and next weekend against UT-Martin (playoff hopeful) will at least get them in the conversation, as they will be 7-4 overall. Although, I think they have a non-D1 win on their schedule.
Mercer on the other hand, needs the win against Samford to get to 8-3 overall, and to be safe. Again, 7-4 gets them in the conversation on Selection Sunday, but they would be sweating. As of now, I think Mercer's best win is against WCU. Their out of conference schedule was really weak this year, so that might hurt them.

In my opinion, winning out does not guarantee us a spot in the playoffs. We need to win the next 2 in convincing fashion. We won against Wofford last week and went down in the polls even though teams ahead of us lost. Without winning the conference, there are no guarantees and historically the SoCon gets 2 teams in and on rare occasion 3 teams. Just saying that we can’t take anything for granted and I can see a scenario where if we barely beat ETSU that we slip further down in the STATS Poll.
