Programs that expect championships let players and coaches know that they are underperforming.

I for one will never Boo a college age kid... I will simply get up and walk out... Skip That is exactly what I did Saturday. I walked out with 9 minutes left in the 4th Quarter. The problem is not with the Football Players. It rests with Speir & his Coaching Staff. He has reached the “Peter Principle” & is not capable of taking the Football Program further than what we have witnessed in the past 7 years. Skip, at some point you have got to separate Coach Speir’s personality from his performance. I understand the argument about the Chancellor & the BOT. However, Speir should have known about these obstacles when he took the job. I personally “like” Coach Speir but I do not “respect” his coaching ability. I’m basing my comments on his W/L Record & his Coaching during games. Sometimes I wonder if you & I are watching the same games. I have been saying the same thing about Coach Speir during his loosing seasons as well as his two 7 Win Seasons. Therefore, I have not been a fair weather fan. If Coach Speir worked for you & your job depended on his performance, what would you do about his performance in 4 of the past 7 years. I was a businessman for 37 years & if I had a manager working for me that had a performance record that was poor, you can rest assured that drastic actions would be taken by me. 7 years is a sufficient amount of time to evaluate a persons ability & his capability to take the Football Program to the level expected by the alumni. A good example for you, what do you think about The Citadel not completing a single pass during the game & our defense was using 4 down lineman with wide splits between them to stop a pure running team? Also keep in mind that the two middle linebackers were sitting up about 3 to 4 yards from the line of scrimmage. Keep in mind that a triple option team’s goal is to get 3 or 4 yards on each play, shorten the game by controlling the clock, and keeping the ball away from our offense. Did The Citadel do this on Saturday & why?

There were mistakes all around... Both on the coaches and on the players... I am sure it is now a mental issue... Are we helping or hurting the team by bashing their coaches ... We ALL want Western to win... If we didn't we would not be reading this board... But it has literally become like other social media with unrelenting bashing... I will continue to support WCU with everything I have... I will continue to support the AD and the HC... I do feel some changes need to be made though and will wait til off season to get into it

Some of us can’t pretend that all is well in Cullowhee & can’t overlook the obvious. By sitting back & not saying anything dose not support the Football Players & certainly not the University. I have asked Jerry to look at the possibility of going to a “Members Only Board”. If this Board is influencing possible recruits, we should all make posts similar to yours or a number of the posters on this Board should have a place to publicly voice our frustrations with the Football Program & the University. I don’t think we need to mislead anybody concerning the Football Program or the University. You really don’t have to say very much because the 3-8 Record speaks very well about how bad the Football Program has become under Coach Speir. If Eaton gives Speir another extension to his contract, Eaton should be fired.

We have an AD and head coach for that. I know many disagree with me, but I think much of our problem this year has been youth on Defense and turnover on the Defensive staff over the past 3 or 4 years. Coach Wiley is a proven winner and he has 3 national championship rings and more SoCon Championship rings to back that up. Coaches just don't all of a sudden become bad coaches. This is Wiley's second year and the first year with players he helped recruit. If we had a decent defense this year, we would have won 7 or 8 games, because our offense is not that bad.

If Eaton gives Speir an another extension to his contract, Eaton should be fired. I think if Coach Speir has a winning season next year, he gets an extension. I think if he has a losing season, he does not. I think it is that simple. What I struggle with is this. We have been bad for over 30 years and every time our solution has been to blame the coach and fire the coach and start over. What is wrong with that picture? Has every coach we have hired over the past 35 years been a bad coach. How can Wiley have some of the best defenses in College Football at App but come to Western and be a bad Defensive coach. You may be 100 percent right about everything you say about the coaches, but even a blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while. There has to be a systemic problem with athletics at Western, because every coach that we have hired in the past 35 years has had the same problem.

I for one will never Boo a college age kid... I will simply get up and walk out... Skip Skip, I do not Boo at College age Students. However, we have young men serving in our military & getting shot at in foreign lands each day & some are getting killed. They are the same age of our Football Players. Guess what, they do not want to be treated like middle schoolers.

Not real sure where your middle schoolers comment is coming from... If they were getting paid to play ball, then boo all you want... But they are not... 18-22 years olds don't deserve it...

Every dollar they receive for tuition, fees, room & board is payment for their performance on the football field. Some get full rides, most are partial, but whatever the case, they are being reimbursed to play football at WCU. That does not mean they should be belittled, but don't make such a statement, because you are wrong. I think most on this board are not faulting the players for this season, but are putting the blame squarely where it belongs, on the back of the head coach.

The “Middle Schooler” comments refer to not saying anything negative to them to keep from hurting their feelings. 18 to 22 year olds are young men & not children. I served during the Vietnam War & you can rest assured that soldiers in this age group were treated differently than WCU Football Players. You are correct about these players not getting paid to play. When I played for WCU, I was on scholarship & I always thought that is was like getting paid to play. You have access to in-State & out of state cost to attend WCU. Over a 4 year period, that is a good some of money. I just don’t think you can say they are playing football for free when their education is being paid for by fellow students in their activities fees.
